Assessing Technique by Creating Split-Screen Movies

Image
The students in Mr. Trotman's PE class continued to review and reflect on their technique for soccer. In this lesson they focused on shooting and dribbling by creating a split screen movie using iMovie on their iPads. After a discussion about how to shoot and dribble effectively each student received a series of short movies that demonstrate real athletes demonstrating the same technique. This enabled them to reflect and analyse their own technique exactly against the real-life athletes e.g. keep head over the ball to not lean back when shooting.

Demonstrating Understanding of Water Scarcity by Creating

The students in Ms Monterossos's HaSS class created a brochure using a Pages template. This enabled them to structure the key vocabulary and concepts in a format of their own choice e.g. bullet points. Further, they conducted web searches for images that related to their text using Google Advanced search. This ensured they saved time obtaining images relevant to the vocabulary and didn't use Copy right images in their own product.

Creating clothing 'characters' in Puppet Pals. Creating varied weather backdrops in Puppet Pals. The students in Mrs Cust's class were shown how weather is important when deciding the 'Clothes We Wear' with a Puppet Pals movie. This tool could also be used by the students to create their own movie in the 'I Do' phase of learning. Creating a 'My Day' e-Book using Book Creator as part of an IEP. A student focusing on telling time as part of their IEP created an eBook to demonstrate they can associate time with routines in 'My Day'. Students will be able to create a Stop Motion movie to demonstrate counting on using Stop Motion Studio. Demonstrating concepts with stop motion movies can be powerful for students. The students in Mrs Cust's class will be showing how they count on with numbers and counters by creating a stop motion movie using the free Stop Motion Studio app.

Assessing Writing with Notes App

Image
The students in Ms Mcelhinney's English class used Notes app on their devices to edit and revise their writing as part of their writing assessment. After linking their success criteria to a colour code the students were able to insert a picture of their drafts into Notes and outline the necessary elements they needed to edit using the inking features. They were then able to make improvements to their stories such as splitting large paragraphs into more manageable segments and adding conclusions all with correct grammar and spelling. The class submitted their editing as evidence for their assessment to their Google Drive or Air Drop.

Analysing Passing and Trapping Technique in PE

Image
The students in Mr. Trotman's PE class learned to use the camera app and iMovie to reflect on their techniques for their current focus - football (soccer). By using the slow-motion mode in the native iOS Camera app students were able to receive instant visual feedback of their own technique. This was especially enhanced when students used the sliding tool to scroll through their performance at key points. Further, the students learned to use iMovie to import their slow-motion movies and record a voice over reflection of their technique with text overlay. The movies were for approx. 1 minute duration and focused entirely on analysis of technique and future goals.
