Assessing Writing with Notes App




The students in Ms Mcelhinney's English class used Notes app on their devices to edit and revise their writing as part of their writing assessment. After linking their success criteria to a colour code the students were able to insert a picture of their drafts into Notes and outline the necessary elements they needed to edit using the inking features. They were then able to make improvements to their stories such as splitting large paragraphs into more manageable segments and adding conclusions all with correct grammar and spelling.
The class submitted their editing as evidence for their assessment to their Google Drive or Air Drop.

This enabled them to structure the key vocabulary and concepts in a format of their own choice e.g. bullet points. Creating clothing 'characters' in Puppet Pals. Creating varied weather backdrops in Puppet Pals. The students in Mrs Cust's class were shown how weather is important when deciding the 'Clothes We Wear' with a Puppet Pals movie. This tool could also be used by the students to create their own movie in the 'I Do' phase of learning. Creating a 'My Day' e-Book using Book Creator as part of an IEP. A student focusing on telling time as part of their IEP created an eBook to demonstrate they can associate time with routines in 'My Day'. Students will be able to create a Stop Motion movie to demonstrate counting on using Stop Motion Studio. Demonstrating concepts with stop motion movies can be powerful for students. The students in Mrs Cust's class will be showing how they count on with numbers and counters by creating a stop motion movie using the free Stop Motion Studio app.
